Customer Etiquette (Student Code of Conduct)
As a BaseLang student, customers agree are expected to be polite and follow common etiquette when taking a class and/or dealing with anyone from the BaseLang team.
A student must:
- be fully clothed during classes
- when taking a class, act with basic manners (no burping, nose picking, foul language etc)
- when taking a class, have the video camera turned on at all times (unless requested otherwise by a teacher)
- when taking a class, not be abusive to the teacher, or make comments that could be deemed as offensive (including sexual, religious, or racial comments)
- when taking a class, avoid discussing inappropriate topics that could make your teacher feel uncomfortable (including topics on politics, religion, and sex)
- when taking a class, give full attention to the teacher – no accepting a call and then leaving for half the class
- when taking a class, no drinking alcohol. Eating may be permitted, but only if it doesn’t cause the student or teacher to be distracted
- when taking a class, try to be in a room with minimum outside noise or distractions
- be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the class if the student is aged 8-12 years old. Students aged 13 to 16 years old only need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian if BaseLang deems it necessary. This will be determined on a case by case basis.
- be the sole user of their account. Attempts to have multiple people using a single account will not be allowed
- not have multiple accounts. Attempts to create more than one account per student is a clear violation of our terms and may result in us blacklisting the user from using our service.
- not sign up for multiple 7-day trials. Any user deemed to be violating this by signing up multiple times will be automatically charged $179 per trial, and may also be blacklisted from using our service.
- sign up using their full legal name (no pseudonyms, nicknames or just initials)
- not solicit personal information from any BaseLang teacher, including their phone number, social media profiles, home address etc
- be on time and take the classes they request. Scheduling classes and then not showing up is a disservice to other students who may have wanted that time slot with a particular teacher, a disservice to the teacher, who ends up sitting there, and a disservice to us as we pay a teacher without them teaching.
- If a customer cannot attend a class, it should be canceled as far in advance as possible. We understand that canceling a class happens from time to time. However, if we notice a pattern whereby a student consistently cancels last minute and therefore does not give other students the chance to book that slot, we will issue a formal warning.
If the customer breaks this code of conduct, BaseLang will issue one formal warning. If a second warning is issued, then BaseLang reserves the right to expel the student from BaseLang, ban them from future classes, and refuse refund requests.
Refunds
Real World Online
We offer 100% refunds, plus an additional $20 (for example, a $179 purchase would result in a $199 refund), for the first 35 calendar days from the date you first sign up to a 7-day trial. This applies for customers of BaseLang only, whom use web.baselang.com, and not users of our marketing website, https://baselang.com or any other subdomain, as those are provided free of charge. BaseLang does not allow students to create duplicate accounts and this refund policy is only valid on a student’s first trial.
Only BaseLang customers who are unhappy with the service within the first 35 days are eligible for a refund. Before issuing a refund, we will ask customers to explain what elements of BaseLang they are unhappy with. This helps us gather feedback in order to continually improve the service we offer.
We process refunds through our payment processor, Braintree. They do not support the extra $20, however. To receive your extra $20 guarantee, you must provide us with an email address, which we will use to send $20USD via PayPal. Failure to provide us this email address within 30 days of refund request will result in your forfeiture of this additional $20.
35 calendar days after the initial sign-up date, we do NOT offer refunds. We have hard costs (paying teachers, for example) that prevent us from offering this.
If your automatically recurring subscription charge to BaseLang occurs, and you have not taken any classes or used any services, and it is no more than 3 days since the charge occurred, you may contact us to have that latest payment, and only the latest payment, refunded. This type of refund does NOT include the extra $20 guarantee.
Request of a refund will be processed within a reasonable period of time, on business days. Process of a refund may result in your account being deleted.
If you request a refund within the first 35 days and receive the $20 additional guarantee, and you later decide to purchase our services again, you are NOT eligible for any type of refund at any point of time for any reason. We reserve the right to deny customers who have been issued refunds access to the BaseLang platform in the future. This is to prevent abuse of our $20 extra guarantee.
Real World Medellin
Our Negative-Risk Guarantee applies only to monthly Real World Medellin students. If at any point in the first 7 days you don’t absolutely love BaseLang, we’ll not only give you a full refund, but we’ll send you $20 for wasting your time. Weekly students are not entitled to a refund if they take classes beyond their first day.
Bootcamp Online and Bootcamp Medellin
Bootcamp students who request to cancel their program are NOT eligible for any type of refund at any point of time for any reason. If due to unforeseen circumstances, a student requests to defer their classes to a later date, then BaseLang will review each situation on a case by case basis. However, BaseLang will not offer any guarantee that a student will be able to re-schedule their classes at a future date.
Recording of Classes for Training Purposes
Occasionally, our teachers will record your classes. Any class where you share personal information or otherwise information that is obviously only intended for the teacher will not be recorded, or, if it was filmed, will be deleted.
The purpose of these recordings is for training. We are constantly working on improving, and having example classes is extremely helpful in this regard. These recordings will never be published, public, or in any way used outside of internal training without your express permission.
In addition, we may use these recordings to create a short progress video for you. By having one or two classes per month recorded, we can edit them together over a longer timeline, so you have a video of your progress. If we create this, it is for you only to do what you wish with, and we will not share it without your express permission.
Any student who wishes to opt-out of being recorded can do so by emailing support(at)baselang.com, and a note will be added to their account to ensure that from that point, no future classes will be recorded.

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold BaseLang harmless from and against any and all claims, damages, costs and expenses, including attorneys’ fees, arising from or related to your use of our Website or any Contracts or Services you purchase through it.
Referral Program
At BaseLang, you can get one month (30 days) of free unlimited classes by referring a friend, if that friend stays with us after their week trial (only eligible for Unlimited and DELE products, if the referred user downgrades to Hourly before the end of their trial, the referring student will not receive any reward). Students may refer as many friends as they wish, with no limits.
Awarded free time as a result of a referral will take effect as soon as the referred user completes their trial and becomes a paying customer. The awarded 30 days may not be delayed to a future time. If a referral cancels within 35 days and asks for a refund, the referee will not be awarded free time.
Referrals should only be used for personal and non-commercial purposes, and only shared with personal connections that will appreciate receiving these invitations. Referral links should not be published or distributed where there is no reasonable basis for believing that all or most of the recipients are personal friends (such as coupon websites, Reddit, or Wikipedia).
BaseLang may suspend or terminate the Referral Program or a user’s ability to participate in the Referral Program at any time for any reason.
We reserve the right to suspend accounts or remove subscriptions if we notice any activity that we believe is abusive or fraudulent. We reserve the right to review and investigate all referral activities and to suspend accounts or modify referrals as deemed fair and appropriate.
If you refer a friend and get free time, you forfeit your right to the 35-day refund. You may still get a refund within 3 days of payment if you have not taken any classes during that time (see the Refunds section for complete information).
Any abuse of the referral program will result in a permanent ban for all parties involved, and where relevant, the parties involved will be charged for the time they fraudulently received for free.
Medellin Spanish School
* General Terms and Conditions
Students must be 18 years or older by the start date of their classes. If the student is less than 18 years old, then we would require a letter from a parent or guardian stating their consent with regards to the students’ registration with the school.
Bootcamp Program (Online & Medellin)
* Changes to your schedule
BaseLang will work with each student to provide classes at the students’ preferred schedule. Once the student begins their Bootcamp program, they are required to stick to the same schedule for the duration of the entire 80hr program. If the student needs to change their schedule due to unforeseen circumstances, BaseLang will do their best to accommodate this change. In the rare event of an emergency or unforeseen circumstance, BaseLang has the right to make changes to a students’ schedule, including substituting the student’s teacher, or requesting the student to change their schedule.
* Terms for Bootcamp Guarantee
Please note that this guarantee does not apply to “Bootcamp Intermediate”.
For Bootcamp students, we guarantee that students will be conversational at the end of the 80-hour program.
Obviously, conversational is a subjective measurement. There’s not much we can do about that, and since we customize the course to your interests (primarily in the last week where we lean more heavily into vocab specific to you), we can’t make a standardized test to check.
We define conversational as being able to effectively have basic conversations in social settings, when talking about typical topics and your interests. It’s not always easy, but most things you don’t have too much difficulty with. You won’t be speaking perfectly, but you’ll be able to communicate nearly any idea and understand the responses you get.
So here’s how this guarantee works – both parties (meaning yourself and us) are realistic about what your level is. Both parties do as much as they can to achieve the highest level possible for you within the month. If at the end of the program, you’re not quite there, we’ll give you two free months of our online Real World program, which has unlimited one-on-one classes, a $358 value. To claim the 2 free months, students must inform us that they have not reached a conversational level within 7 days of their last Bootcamp class, at which point we will speak to the student’s teacher to review this claim and assess the student’s level.
There are no refunds, as we have hard costs, and realistically speaking – in the off chance that you aren’t conversational within the month, you won’t be far off, and two months with our online program will be more than enough to get you over the hump.
In essence, the guarantee is that for the price you pay, you’ll become conversational. Almost all students will achieve this with just the Bootcamp program. If you’re one of the few that doesn’t, you will get more classes for free, with our online Real World program, to get you there.
This guarantee is for the 80hr Bootcamp program only. Bootcamp Intermediate, Real World and DELE in-person programs do not carry a guarantee, nor does any Bootcamp package that is less than 4 weeks. All we can say is that you will be very happy. In the extremely unlikely case that you hate everything, we’ll figure out a potential refund or solution with you, but it’s not standard, and would be handled on a case-by-case basis.
